Oh, those wily scientists and their attempts to make me feel insignificant in comparison to the universe just won’t stop. My standing rule is that if you’re talking about anything where the numbers become incomprehensible (or tangible, for that matter) it doesn’t really matter. With all these crazy discoveries, there are still tribes living in the Amazon who don’t realize that there is an entire planet that could possibly annihilate itself with nuclear weapons. Might they have an opinion on meteorites delivering the building blocks of DNA to our planet billions of years ago? I doubt it, but they might have an opinion on the shape and orientation of the universe. Either way, kudos to science and boo to science reporters who are trying to tell me something I heard on the Discovery channel six years ago.
