Aw, po’ Sawah

If there was one single thing that clenched this election for Obama, it was McCain’s choice of VP. It probably gave him an extra 5-8% by polarizing the election with the whole ‘real america’ vs. ‘fake america’. A lot of people were offended and I don’t think she would have been such a poor choice… a few years from now, maybe after she’d had a chance to work out all the insane crap in her life. Also, the questionable ethics she practiced (using personal e-mail to avoid record-keeping, etc.) might have been more easily avoided. And she would have had a more solid base of experience to work from. Four more years and she would have been an entirely better pick. For this election, it was probably Romney. I, of course, would have voted that way had he picked Huckabee. She didn’t lose the campaign for him, but she certainly did not help by alienating independents, blacks and gays (who, I might remind you, can vote too).

Completely ignoring the libertarian “fiscally conservative and socially liberal” voter certainly didn’t help. It’s what the Republican party is supposed to be rooted in, right?

But when people started talking like they were voting for Palin to be president instead of McCain, I knew their campaign was finished. They picked too good of a VP, one who outshone their candidate. The idea of a VP choice is that they should be not-quite-as-good but makes the candidate look really good. Nobody would vote for Biden, but he was really good at making Obama shine. It’s like the opening act getting an encore and the crowd booing the headliners off the stage. She was a great choice, but not for McCain.

Either way, the radical right is now on the hunt to politically assasinate McCain staffers who said mean things about her. Because they obviously never met the dear woman and had no idea what they were talking about. I’m still pissed that she called me unamerican (for all intents and purposes) but I won’t hold it against her.
