Movie Review: Observe and Report

Yes, I realize my posting has crawled to almost nothing. I’ve been super busy. Deal.

I saw Observe and Report because my friends thought it looked funny. And it was, kinda. In a sad way. I just kept thinking about the Mall Ninja. And how terribly un-funny such a situation is.

Not to mention the glamorization of well, mediocrity. But movies generally express triumph, so it is understandable. Except that most of the time, such triumphs are the reward for excellence. This was certainly not the case in this movie. It was more like a jumble of coincidence and fumbling and luck.

And it wasn’t really that funny. The movie relies on extremes to convey anything, which is not limited to entirely too-awkward-for-film-sex-that’s-supposed-to-be-quirky, graphic violence that’s not really in tune with the rest of the film and creepy nudity.

If they aimed to mock America, they have succeeded. That Kevin James flick looked slap-sticky and funny -this movie exposed failure in ways that Gummo wasn’t even prepared to do so blatantly.

Wait to get it on Netflix. That’s all.
