An interesting surprise!

The book can be viewed by chapter or downloaded for free here, and if one finds it useful enough it is also available for purchase in print on the same page. Don’t be put off by it’s apparent lack of “sophistication”, it’s village medicine orientation, or it’s occasional foray into politics; there is a lot of good information in this book, and the price is right.

I found this little gem at a used book sale for $3 a couple of years back and am glad to see people still promoting it. I was first made aware of it through some survivalist friends of mine. Which troubles me, being that an blog that focuses on the combined subjects of religion and politics is promoting a survivalist-oriented book (and it indeed is). Survivalists are almost exclusively anarchist/minarchists, true, but something like this appearing on a political commentary blog indicates that said blog anticipates a need for such a book in the future.

I also realize that much of the fringe self-identifies libertarian (which lends little legitimacy to the movement, honestly). But is the anticipation of a Mad Max themed breakdown of society becoming more mainstream in the movement? Lew Rockwell tends to cater to the more hardcore paleo-conservatives to the best of my knowledge.

I am troubled by this, if only for the implication of a full-scale societal breakdown where there is no health care.

I own the book -and have it next to my zombie survival guide -because I’m waiting for a zombie apocalypse. Come on, ethically-challenged scientists, where are the goddamn zombies?
